The method

The Owned Media Signal Stack. How founder presence compounds.

Founder presence is what I help you build: being found and trusted by the right people now.

The Owned Media Signal Stack is how Founder Presence compounds. Layer by layer, it turns founder expertise into public evidence, material that search engines and AI assistants can find and use, distribution through third-party audiences, and an audience the company owns. The result is more evidence a buyer can discover and verify before the sales call.

Positioning

Founder presence

What I build for technical AI and SaaS founders.

Outcome

Found and trusted

The right buyers can find what you know and check it.

Method

Owned Media Signal Stack

How that presence compounds through owned media, discovery and distribution.

§01The layers

Five layers, built from the ground up.

Read it from the bottom up. The base is always the founder's own signal.

Each layer above it reuses that material to reach more people, more often, through routes the company increasingly controls.

  1. Owned audience

Earn permission to reach people again without paying a platform.

    • Newsletter
    • Capture points on your site
    • Archive of pages and episodes
  2. Borrowed reach

Reach audiences that already trust someone else.

    • Partnerships
    • Partner content
    • Creator and community distribution
  3. Conversations

Turn recorded conversations into relationships and reusable material.

    • Interview series or podcast
    • Guest appearances
    • Video and clips
  4. Search and AI discovery

Be findable in search and accurately represented by AI assistants when buyers research without you.

    • Buyer-question research
    • Answer and comparison pages
    • Entity consistency
    • Repeated AI answer checks
  5. Founder signal

Turn what the founder knows into public evidence buyers can check.

    • Expertise interviews
    • Founder voice and intelligence file
    • Profile and positioning
    • Founder media

Running through every layer: one source, many uses. Each interview and insight is reused across the layers, and every month's review shapes the next.

§02Principles

How the stack is used.

Start from the constraint

We look at what is blocking the founder and company now and build that layer first, rather than starting from a list of channels.

Not every founder needs every layer

Some engagements use one layer for the whole 90 days. A layer is added only when it has a job and someone can maintain it.

One source, many uses

A single interview can feed posts, an answer page, a newsletter section and a note for sales. Reuse is what keeps founder time low.

Move toward what you own

The direction is away from scattered founder activity and rented attention, toward pages, relationships and an audience the company keeps.

§03When to build

When to build each layer, and when to wait.

Each layer has a job.

If the job does not exist yet, the layer waits.

LayerBuild it whenWait when
01Founder signalAlways first. Every other layer reuses this material.Never skipped, but kept small until the founder's views and voice are clear.
02Search and AI discoveryBuyers research the category through Google or AI assistants and you are missing or unclear there. You cannot yet name the questions buyers ask before they buy.
03ConversationsThe founder explains better out loud, and there are guests worth an hour: customers, partners, experts buyers trust. There is no relationship job, only a wish to have a show.
04Borrowed reachOther companies or people serve the same buyer with something you do not sell.Audience overlap and shared value are still guesses.
05Owned audiencePeople already arrive through the other layers and need a reason to stay in touch. The list would be empty, or full of people who cannot buy, refer or partner.
§04Engagements

How the engagements use the stack.

The stack is the method, not a fourth service.

Each engagement uses the part of it that fits the founder's situation.

§05Questions

Questions about the method.

What is the Owned Media Signal Stack?

It is the method OwnedSignal uses to decide what to build around a founder and company, and in what order. It has five layers: founder signal, search and AI discovery, conversations, borrowed reach and owned audience. Founder Presence is OwnedSignal's main work. The Owned Media Signal Stack is the method for making that presence compound through public evidence, search and AI discovery, third-party distribution and an owned audience.

Does every company need all five layers?

No. Many engagements use one or two layers for the full 90 days. A layer is added only when it has a clear job and someone can keep it running. Unused layers stay unused.

Where does it start?

With founder signal: the founder's expertise, captured through interviews and turned into a clear profile and published thinking. Every other layer reuses that material, so it comes first even when the main problem is discovery or distribution.

Is the Owned Media Signal Stack a separate service?

No. It is the method behind the three 90-day engagements and the sprint. Each engagement uses a different part of it, shown in the table on this page.

What does owned mean here?

Assets the company controls and keeps: pages on its own domain, its subscriber list, its recordings and archive, and relationships with partners. Platform reach is still useful, but it can change without notice, so the stack moves attention toward things the company keeps.

The fit call · 30 minutes

On a 30-minute fit call we look at what a buyer finds about you today and where the constraint is.

Then I tell you which engagement fits, or whether none does yet.
